Fibre Mood – Lola Top

Fibre mood is a monthly pattern magazine, containing sewing projects for women, men, children and even knitting patterns. Subscriptions as either paper copies or as a PDF are available. But what’s even better is that if you see a pattern you love, you can just buy that one pattern on its own. Sizes are fully inclusive ranging from UK 4 to 32 as the PDF files are layered so its easy to print off just your own size.

I was asked by the lovely team at Fibre mood if I would like a sneaky peek at this months patterns prior to release and I was gifted a pattern of my choice to make up prior to release day. Now it was such a difficult choice, as this month’s issue has the perfect makes for the upcoming summer months. The lola top jumped out at me! I can’t resist a ruffle!!

The Lola Blouse is a pretty femanime summer blouse with some really cute features. Firstly it has a ruffle section on the front which continues over the shoulders to the back. The back detail has my heart fluttering everytime I look at it and is what pulled me in.

I had this linen in my stash for a while after finding it in the Guthrie and Ghani ramenent basket. It’s a beautiful subtle pink colour with polka dot triangles throughout. I had 1.5m which was just enough for this project. The back tie section is lined and the ruffle is rather long to create that dramatic look.

The construction begins with the tie back which looking back now, I think I could reduce the length of the ties to prevent the weight dragging down this section with such a lightweight fabric. The back also has a small section of elastic to full in the shape and this also makes its very comfortable to wear. Its loose for the summer but the elastic creates shaping around the bust.

The only difficulty I had with this pattern was the armholes. There were very large and I could see my bra at the sides during the first try on. I made a size 4 using my body measurements but I think I could even go down a size and it would still be comfortable. I closed up the armholes slightly and I think its sorted the problem.
